Slavnostní zahájení významného investičního projektu – „Kalové hospodářství ČOV Brno – Modřice“
Dams and reservoirs on water courses and small water reservoirs are civil structures providing conditions for utilizing a number of benefits and for influencing flow conditions in the desired manner. First and foremost, these dams are sources of water supplying the population with drinking water and ensuring required water supplies for the industries and agriculture as well as maintaining minimum flow rates in the water courses. They also fulfill tasks related to flood protection, can have energy use, landscape and environmental functions, recreational use, etc.
Dams and reservoirs include mainly the following:
Impounding reservoirs (reservoirs with storage volume over 2 million m³ and depth over 9 m). The reservoir dams can be earth-fill dams, dams made of concrete or masonry. Functional structures (outlets, emergency spillways, intake structures, feeders, etc.) form part of the dam.
Reservoirs of pumped-storage hydro power stations.
Small water reservoirs (reservoirs with a storage volume of less than 2 million m³ and a depth of up to 9 m), which can serves water retention, recreational, landscape and environmental, irrigation, fish farming, treatment, fire protection and other purposes.
Polders (single-purpose protective basins)
Ponds – small reservoirs mainly with a recreational, landscaping or fish-breeding functions
Work related to water reservoirs of all parameters occupy an important position within services provided by AQUATIS a.s.
The last completed dam in the Czech Republic is the Slezská Harta dam on the Moravica river (1997), where AQUATIS acted as the general designer. In„ “the following period, AQUATIS a.s. provided design preparation for the reconstruction of a number of dams in the Czech Republic necessitated by the reassessed safety of the dams during floods and requirements to ensure good technical condition of the dams in the upcoming period of operation (Dam Bystrićka, Morávka, Nechranice, Mšeno, Těrlicko, Šance, Kružberk, Opatovice, Boskovice, Orlík, Hubenov ...)
After a period of stagnation in the preparation of new dams, Aquatis has started working on pre-design and design preparation of other important projects (Dams Nové Heřminovy, Vlachovice, Kryry, Skalička polder). Preparation of the design documentation is usually preceded by surveys and analyses to the extent corresponding to the importance and function of the dam and complexity of the conditions given by its location (hydrological analyses, geodetic survey, engineering geological and hydrogeological surveys, etc.). Special attention is paid to environmental issues as such dams have usually a significant impact on the environment.
