Sand trap – new water line at the Prague Wastewater Treatment Plant

Investor: Pražská vodohospodářská společnost a.s.

The subject of the assigment was to assess flow rates in sand traps that form part of the DENSADEG 4D system in the new Prague WWTP water line at its maximum hydraulic loading. The simulations reflected multiphase flows in the sand trap - in addition to water, sand/gravel particles, grease and air bubbles from aeration elements were modelled, too. Results of the current status simulations indicated uneven hydraulic and mass loading at the spillway crest of the distribution channel and the aeration space of the sand trap. Subsequently, the model analyzed impacts of simple layout modifications and performance of aeration elements on the sand trap flow rates. However, the tested modifications and changes did not have a significant impact on reducing the unevenness of hydraulic and mass loading at the spillway crest of the distribution channel and the aeration area of the sand trap.
