Assessment of the Tichý Potok water reservoir under Article 4.7 of the Water Framework Directive

The subject of the study was the assessment of 4 alternative solutions of supplying eastern Slovakia with drinking water (Tichý Potok water reservoir, Žitný Ostrov water supply conduit- eastern Slovakia, retention of water in the landscape - stream damming, reduction of losses in the current water supply system) according to Article 4.7 of the European Parliament and Council Directive 2000 /60/EC, which establishes the framework of Community competence in the field of water policy (the "Water Framework Directive"). The scope of assessing the individual alternatives included:
• Description and analyses of the technical solutions
• Estimated capex
• Estimated opex
• Evaluation of costs and benefits (CBA analysis) 
• Evaluation of impacts on protected areas and Natura 2000 sites
• Project time schedule
• Covering the future drinking water shortage
 
Parameters:
• Total reservoir volume: 24.457 million m3
• Flooded area at maximum level: 115.0 ha
