The purpose of the study and the balance model was to map out in detail the water quality in the entire Jihlava river basin upstream the Nové Mlýny hydraulic structure (including the main tributaries - the Oslava and Rokytná), to identify individual sources of pollution and analyze their effect on the state of water. The study expanded and updated the previous "Qualitative model of the Jihlava river upstream the Dalešice hydraulic structure".
The Ptotal indicator, which is the main cause of eutrophication in water reservoirs, was addressed the model. The study also dealt with analyses of Ntotal sources, organic pollution of water courses represented by the COD parameter and water erosion in the river basin.
The collection of information was based on a massive monitoring campaign of all WWTPs in the entire Jihlava river basin. All relevant sources in the basin were addressed and their detailed analysis was carried out in order to determine their significance with respect to the hydraulic structure and the Jihlava river itself.
The collected information was used to develop sets of measures aimed to reduce the modeled indicators, especially phosphorus, in both point and non-point sources, and a group of the most effective scenarios of measures was selected using simulations.
Parameters:
River basin area: 2,998 km2
Number of addressed urban settlements: 420
Number of WWTPs 130
Number of inhabitants living in the catchment area: 290,000
